Before you book: a more thoughtful hotel checklist
A short list of things to compare before you choose a room: location, room details, arrival plans, and the actual rate conditions.
Start with your day, not the deal
Before comparing hotels, write down the two or three places you most want to spend time. A cheaper room is not automatically a better fit if every day begins with a journey you did not plan for. Compare the real route from the property to those places, including the walk to the station or pier.
Compare the room you are actually booking
A hotel name does not describe every room. Look at the selected room category, bed configuration, occupancy limits, window information, and whether breakfast is included in that particular offer. Save the room description alongside your confirmation.
Read the rate conditions
Read the provider’s current cancellation deadline, payment timing, currency, and the full checkout total. Do not assume two offers for the same room have the same conditions. If a deadline matters, note the stated date and time zone.
Make arrival easier
Check the hotel’s stated check-in time and the route for your expected arrival hour. If you have a late flight or accessibility requirements, contact the property before committing to the booking. Keep confirmation and contact details somewhere accessible offline.
Give yourself a little flexibility
The point is not to optimize every minute. Choose a stay that supports the trip you actually want, then leave a little room for a good breakfast, a different street, or an unplanned afternoon.
